Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Authorities attending the scene of a three vehicle pileup have officially cleared the highway. A cargo truck unable to stop in time for a slowing bus ended up rearing the vehicle and overturning but not before colliding with a van.

Municipal traffic units, Civil Protection and emergency services responded to the highway crash that left Monday morning traffic chaotic. Riviera Maya highway drivers were severely slowed in front of the Vindanta hotel approximately 10 kilometers north of Playa del Carmen where the three vehicles collided around 8:00 a.m.
A bus heading toward Playa del Carmen slowed due to heavy traffic, however, the cargo truck following behind did not. The fast moving driver of the truck is alleged to have failed to break, slamming into the back of the tourist bus.
A third vehicle, a tourist transport van, was broadsided on the left for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The van suffered severe denting and several popped windows from the collision that left the cargo truck on its roof.

National Guard arrived at the scene to assist with flagging tasks, diverting traffic around the accident site. So far, there have not been any major injuries reported, only minor injuries suffered by two drivers and material damage to all three vehicles.

Traffic was finally normalized late Monday morning. Authorities from the scene are working on an exact cause for the three vehicle collision.
