Boca del Río, Veracruz — An accumulation of gas is said responsible for the explosion of a restaurant that leveled a hotel and several nearby homes in the state of Veracruz.
On Tuesday, a gas leak and accumulation resulted in the explosion of El Cacharrito restaurant next to a hotel in Boca del Rio. The explosion left one injured person who was transferred by ambulance to the High Specialty Hospital of Veracruz, municipal authorities said.
According to the initial report, the roar of the explosion and the subsequent fall of the Paraíso Suites Hotel, located on Miguel Alemán and Mocambo Boulevard, woke up the community’s inhabitants.
Several residents called the emergency service around 2:40 a.m. to report the explosion, which was heard for several kilometers. Numerous nearby homes suffered damage due to its intensity, which also caused the complete collapse of the Paraíso Suites Hotel next door.
According to the director of Civil Protection of Boca del Río, Andrés Escalera Pavón, the accident occurred around 02:40 hours with only one injured, although the material damage is substantial due to the shock wave.
