Playa del Carmen, Q. R. — Hundreds of locals were unable to access their vehicles after leaving the city’s Feria del Carmen Sunday night. People who used the Walmart underground parking lot arrived after midnight to find they were locked out.
While some simply opted to leave their vehicle locked in the underground parkade, others wanted access to their vehicles after leaving the Plaza 28 de Julio open air concert.
Several elements of Solidaridad Public Security were sent to the store’s parking area where those waiting for access to their cars were told it is a private parking lot. They were also told that the parking coincides with the store’s operating hours, which are from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 midnight.
However, as the line of desperate vehicle owners began to grow longer, police eventually contacted the store’s managers so people could recover their vehicles.
