Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Area residents of central Playa del Carmen reported a deceased male to local police Wednesday. The report was made when the body of a man was found hanging from a tree.
The man’s body was found near a cenote. Police were called to the area in Playa 72 where they arrived to access the cenote where the body was found. Municipal SSC police requested assistance from the medical examiner to remove the body after verifying the report.
Local authorities have not identified the man or provided details beyond what was provided by the residents who found him. The man, whose age is unknown, was found hanging from a tree in a thick jungle area.
His death is being treated as a suicide.
