Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — This week, cameras and GPS are being installed in Playa del Carmen public transport units. Luis Armando Herrera Quiam, Secretary of the Lázaro Cárdenas del Río Taxi Drivers Union says that this week, installation will begin.
Herrera said they have continued to work with municipal authorities to provide a more efficient and safe service in both Playa del Carmen and Puerto Aventuras. For these reasons, they have decided to install the cameras and GPS to improve service and prevent crime.
He said that the installed GPS and cameras will be connected to the C5 in Cancun. During the first days of April, they will begin with the installation on 1,000 public units. He says the Lázaro Cárdenas del Río Taxi Drivers Union will pick up the tab.
The balance of the public units that run in Playa del Carmen and Puerto Aventuras will be installed in stages.
He also said that in the next few days, the new transportation service with new units will be inaugurated in Puerto Aventuras. This, he says, will offer better service but with the same rates.
