Chiquilá, Q.R. –The Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection has closed a site in the port of Chiquilá where unidentified subjects devastated mangroves in order to make room for a building with parking.
La Procuraduría Federal de Protección al Ambiente (Profepa) reports that the closed site is located on the main avenue of the community where its owners intended to build a shop. The inspection and closure came after residents complained about the mangrove devastation.
In a statement, Profepa said that it complied with the closure of a property in the port of Chiquilá, where they located the devastated mangrove, proceeding with the placement of two seals.
Profepa says they will continue to monitor lands in both Chiquilá and Holbox to prevent them from being destroyed.
