Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The Harbor Master of Playa del Carmen has reported the sinking of a vessel off Punta Venado, for which they have requested other navigators avoid the area. On Monday, the Harbor Master announced Canadian vessel Good Vibes sank in waters off Punta Venado.
An alert has since been issued since the boat remains overturned in the sea.
In a statement, the Port Authority of Playa del Carmen explained that Good Vibes from Montreal is a privately owned 38-foot boat. Upon its sinking, emergency protocols were activated to rescue passengers and crew. The Port Authorities says there were no victims.
The statement added that the captain of the vessel has been requested to provide the cause of its sinking, adding that an administrative fine is in the process. They say other boaters need to avoid the area until Good Vibes is removed to avoid area contamination.
