President Sheinbaum reaches “many agreements” with Trump during Canadian G7 Summit

Mexico City, Mexico — President Claudia Sheinbaum says her recent phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump was “very positive”. Sheinbaum and Trump resumed talks via phone after Trump left the G7 summit in Canada early.

President Sheinbaum described the phone call she had with Trump as “very positive” while she was visiting Canada to participate in the 51st G7 Leaders’ Summit from where she proposed a general agreement on migration, security and trade.

Sheinbaum says during their conversation many agreements were reached. “We’ve reached many agreements. Today we have a much more secure border. There’s an agreement on security, which is the first agreement signed in Washington, and now it’s a preview of that agreement, which is practically ready to determine collaboration and coordination, based on respect for our sovereignty.

“Regarding migration, there’s a significant decrease in migration passing through Mexico. So, I asked him, why didn’t we have a general agreement, an agreement that had to do with security, migration and also trade?” she said.

Sheinbaum said that during the conversation they talked about the importance of this new comprehensive agreement recognizing the efforts and work of Mexican families living in the United States.

Sheinbaum is greeted by fans at the Calgary International Airport.

“I also mentioned the importance of recognizing Mexicans in the United States, Mexican families who have lived there for years, who work for the United States and that he knows about these families.

“I raised this issue with him and he said, ‘It’s true, there are many Mexican families working for the good of our country.’ So, I proposed this general agreement and he agreed,” she added.

She explained that in addition to this agreement, the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) remains in place and will be reviewed as scheduled in 2026.

On Friday, the Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon, will meet with the Secretary of Commerce of the United States, Howard Lutnick to continue progress on trade. Meanwhile, security and migration issues will be discussed with the State Department.
