Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The step father of a six year old boy that was removed from his home last week has been captured. The man is accused of burning his step son with a lighter and abusing the child’s mother.

Police in Playa del Carmen reported on the arrest of José Alberto “N” who, they say, is facing charges of domestic violence for “hitting and burning injuries.”

“As part of the actions to guarantee a life free of violence against girls, boys, adolescents and women, the State Attorney General’s Office reports the fulfillment of an arrest warrant for a male person for his probable participation in events possibly constituting the crime of domestic violence against a minor and an adult, which occurred in this municipality,” they said.

“The events for which he is accused occurred on Wednesday, February 5 of this year, in a home located on Cigüeñas Street and Avenida Sur in the Villas del Sol subdivision in Playa del Carmen when José Alberto “N”, taking advantage of the proximity to the minor, caused him injuries by burns with a lighter, as well as various wounds on the body,” authorities reported.

“Thanks to a report to the 911 emergency number and the rapid intervention of members of the Specialized Group for Attention to Domestic and Gender Violence (Geavig) Solidaridad, the child was rescued from his home and sheltered in the Temporary Assistance House at the DIF System facilities.

“Following the events, the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation  and after gathering the necessary evidence, requested and obtained from a judge an arrest warrant, which was carried out.
