Police nab suspect wanted in Xpu-Há and Tulum murders

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Local authorities have arrested a suspect in the murder of three people. On Friday, police announced the arrest of Luis “L”, who goes by the alias “Pánico”.

According to police, Luis “L” is believed related to a murder in August 2022 in the municipality of Solidaridad and another in Tulum in March of 2023 where two people were killed.

According to the Attorney General of the State of Quintana Roo “the first event occurred on August 31, 2022, on the Playa del Carmen-Tulum highway near Xpu-Há, in the municipality of Solidaridad, when a woman and a man boarded a taxi to go to the town of Chemuyil.

“They asked the driver to stop, which is when a van blocks his way from which the defendant gets out and shoots the taxi driver several times,” the FGE said.

“The second event took place at dawn on March 15 of this year when Luis “L”, and another investigated person, went to a bar in the municipality of Tulum. Outside were two men who were shot repeatedly,” the agency detailed.

“The defendant was detained by elements of the Investigative Police when he was walking through the streets of the Ejido neighborhood of the municipality of Tulum.” He has since been transferred to Playa del Carmen and admitted to the Solidaridad Municipal Retention Center.
