Police make arrests after construction site shootout

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. —  A confrontation between police and armed civilians took place Saturday in the Villas del Sol neighborhood of Playa del Carmen. Several suspects fired at police after authorities arrived at a construction site in response to reports of gunfire.

The incident happened around noon. The emergency 9-1-1 report was made regarding a construction site located at the end of Avenida Constituyentes.

Upon their arrival, police were fired upon. Authorities repelled the attack and arrested four people. In the process, two firearms were seized. In custody are Edgar N, 24, from Tabasco, Gerardo N, 24, from Chiapas, Edgar N, 19, from Quintana Roo, Jair N, 24, from Veracruz and Francisco N, 40 and from Chiapas.

The exchange of gunfire happened on a residential construction site in the southwest of Playa del Carmen. Solidaridad police have not issued a public statement on the Saturday incident.
