Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Police have located a semi believed involved in a fatal hit and run Thursday night in Playa del Carmen. However, when the unit was located with the help of city surveillance cameras, police found it without a driver.
On Friday morning, the SSC (Seguridad Ciudadana Solidaridad) reported on the late night incident that left one local man dead.
“In an immediate response effort, the Solidaridad Municipal Citizen Security Secretariat tracked and located the trailer that probably ran over a person last night on Playa del Carmen Boulevard.
“The Municipal Traffic and Highway Police, with the support of surveillance cameras and the C2 Control Center, located and secured the Freightliner brand trailer on South 41st Street, and an operation coordinated with the State Attorney General’s Office was deployed to locate the driver of the trailer who was not in the unit.”
The hit and run happened around 10:00 p.m. on Playa del Carmen Boulevard near the Centro Maya shopping plaza when the pedestrian was attempting to cross the road. The deceased has only been identified as a male. The driver of the semi who is believed responsible has not yet been located.
