Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Municipal police and forensic personnel were called to a beach area off Constituciónntes Avenue Wednesday after reports of a washed up body.
Others on the beach found the body of a deceased man near a Playa del Carmen ferry pier. The man was partially clothed by a pair of shorts. He is reported to be of Mexican nationality.
His discovery was reported to authorities around 1:00 p.m. Wednesday. While he is believed to be a drowning victim, an investigation into his death will begin after an autopsy reveals the official cause of his death.
The body of the unidentified man was seen floating in shallow waters off the shore in front of a beachfront hotel. He was placed under a towel and surrounded by beach loungers while police waited for state authorities to arrive.
