Police chief and six of his agents arrested in Veracruz for ties to Gulf Cartel

Álamo, Veracruz — Seven officers, including a commander, were arrested in Veracruz after accusations they were tied to the Gulf Cartel.

Hugo Gutiérrez Maldonado, the Secretary of Public Security, headed the operation which resulted in the arrest of all seven police officers. The arrest of Commander Guillermo N of the Municipal Police of Álamo and six others of the same corporation, was made by personnel from the National Guard, the Secretary of the Navy and the Secretaría de Seguridad Pública of Veracruz.

The arrests were carried out in the city of Álamo after officers set up a police filter Friday night. Vehicles circulating in the area were reviewed. It wasn’t until Saturday that the seven officers were filtered out. They are accused of belonging to a shadow group of the Cártel del Golfo.

According to information from the SSP, the officers are linked to Agustín N, leader of the criminal group. From him, the Director of the Municipal Police is accused of having received large sums of money, while officers Daniel Antonio N, Martín N, Filiberto Alejandro N , Pedro N, José Israel N and Francisco Javier N allegedly participated in crimes perpetrated in the region.

During the arrests, long and short weapons, chargers, cartridges, tactical vests and drugs were seized.
