Playa del Carmen’s BiciPlaya program set to launch

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The city of Playa del Carmen will soon be offering another way to get around with the start of the BiciPlaya program. To encourage people to drive less and bike more, the city will launch its public bicycle rental program that has stations throughout numerous areas.

Both visitors and residents can easily use the system, which allows bikers to rent a bicycle for day(s), week or year at a time. Bike users can access the BiciPlaya system by downloading the app or going directly to the BiciPlaya website. Here, interested users can sign up and select the duration of their preferred bike rental length.

The rates range from 98 peso for a day, 196 peso for a three-day use, 328 peso for a week or, for the time being, an annual pass for 210 peso which is normally 420 peso. The city has numerous bike stations around Playa del Carmen that include Aviación, Centro, Gonzalo Guerrero, Zazil Há, Colosio and Villas del Sol.

There are 500 BiciPlaya bicycles around Playa del Carmen. The official launch of the program is set for September 15. Each bicycle is outfitted with a satellite location chip, which provides security to the user. Personnel will also be available to provide permanent assistance in their customer service center and through its mobile modules.

The installation of the BiciPlaya bicycle program is part of the city’s new alternative mobility plan that will soon include the installation of parking meters around central areas of Playa del Carmen.
