Playa del Carmen’s BiciPlaya program sees 600 trips per day

Playa del Carmen, Q,R. — The municipality of Solidaridad already has 8,000 registered users for the BiciPlaya bike program in Playa del Carmen.

Marco Blasquez, marketing manager of Promotora de Reordenamiento Urbano, says there are an average of 600 trips per day made by users of the bike program, noting that in terms of parking and less vehicles, it has been good for the city.

“We went from 120,000 to 300,000 inhabitants in 10 years. There are 68,000 vehicles in the vehicle register in addition to leased vehicles,” said Blasquez.

He indicated that the purpose of the program is to discourage the use of the car, providing bicycles as an alternative transportation option.

“We have more than 8,000 registered users and about 600 daily trips on average,” he said. “People are already learning to use bicycles as an alternative transportation option.”
