Playa del Carmen teen dies after being stabbed by ex

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A teenaged woman died Tuesday morning in a Playa del Carmen hospital after being stabbed at her workplace. The stabbing happened the evening before at an establishment along 30th Avenue.

Police were on scene after witnesses called them to report the woman was being stabbed by a man. The man, who was an alleged ex-boyfriend, reportedly stabbed the young woman twice before fleeing.

Police scoured the area Monday evening and were successful in locating the man alleged responsible for the attack. Reports say the man stabbed the woman twice, once in the face and once in the chest. She was rushed to hospital where she died Tuesday morning from her chest injury.

Taken into custody by Playa del Carmen police was 25-year-old Melquisedec N originally from Tabasco. He was intercepted by authorities while running along 40 Avenue and 60 Street of the Colosio neighborhood.

He was returned to the scene and his identity verified by witnesses as the man who entered the store and then stabbed the woman. On his person, police located a 10 centimeter long knife.
