Playa del Carmen teen rescued after falling into dry cenote

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A young man was pulled from a dry cenote by firemen after falling into it while attempting to take a short cut home. The unusual incident happened in the subdivision of La Guadalupana in the city’s northwest after the young man reportedly left a group of friends with whom he had been drinking.

In an attempt to short-cut his way home, his chosen path resulted in his falling into the large dry hole.

Playa del Carmen firemen were called to avenida México after the young man’s friends and family were unable to pull the unconscious teen out due to the cenote’s depth. Firemen lowered equipment into the hole and were able to successfully pull the 15-year-old to safety. He was taken to the General Hospital for injuries sustained during the fall.
