Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Municipal police found a dead taxi driver after attending to the report of gunfire early Monday morning. The unnamed man was found laying on a market sidewalk shot to death.

The driver was a member of the Lázaro Cárdenas del Río taxi union. He was shot and killed in the 28 de Julio neighborhood around 1:00 a.m. Monday by subjects on a motorcycle.
Witnesses reported that the taxi was intercepted by two men on a motorcycle who began shooting at the driver. In an attempt to flee bullets, the wounded driver got out of his cab and tried to run, however, he was gunned down and left for dead.
His body was found laying on a market sidewalk near the Punto 115 Plaza after plaza patrons reported seeing the shooting.
Municipal Police along with personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office were at the scene of the early morning shooting. His bloodied taxi was located near where he was fatally shot.

Arrests have not yet been announced. There was no word on a possible motive for the targeted hit.
