Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A taxi driver that was stopped for talking on his cell phone while driving was arrested with a fake license. Fifty-year-old Edgar “N” was pulled over by police Friday along 28 de Julio after police saw him using his phone while driving.
While verifying his cab and permits, Solidaridad officers were presented with, what turned out to be, a fake driver’s license. In a statement by Seguridad Pública Solidaridad (SSP), Municipal Transit Police were responsible for the arrest.
“Municipal Transit elements arrested a subject in possession of an apparently apocryphal driver’s license in the 28 de Julio neighborhood after being detained for not respecting traffic regulations.
“Edgar “N”, 50 years old, originally from Mexico City, was driving a vehicle authorized for taxi service with economic number 698 on Playa del Carmen Boulevard when he was stopped by Transit elements for driving while using his cell phone.
“After stopping him, the now detained man gave the officers an expired driving card and a driver’s license that did not have the corresponding security details, in addition to the fact that when verifying the data, there were no records on the processing of the license for which he was secured and placed at the disposal of the State Attorney General’s Office.”
