Playa del Carmen street fight leads police to man wanted for alleged sexual assault

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Playa del Carmen police say that after a residential complaint of a street fight, one man was arrested for drug possession, however, police say he is being investigated for other crimes including rape and sexual assault.

The 32-year-old man, who they report is originally from Tabasco, was detained Sunday morning in the Villas del Sol subdivision after neighbors reported a group of half-a-dozen men fighting. Police responded to the report, breaking up the fight and interviewing those involved. After an inspection, one male was arrested when police found him carrying three bags of marijuana.

They say that the detained man, identified as V.J.R.G. from Tabasco, has distinguishing tattoos and is believed responsible for crimes of rape and sexual assault. He is being held for the state attorney. Police have released a photo that they say, may help potential victims identify him.
