Playa del Carmen police make arrests after chasing armed men

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A municipal police unit was damaged Wednesday in a chase through city streets. Police were on the tail of armed men in a car when the driver of the car hit one of the units.

The chase took place in the residential area of La Guadalupana of Playa del Carmen around 2:00 p.m. Wednesday. The car was chased down in response to reports of armed men traveling in a grey Chevy.

When the driver realized police were at the scene, he attempted to flee, leading to a brief chase that started on Xel-Há Avenue and ended on Bahia del Espíritu Santo Avenue.

It was there the driver hit a police unit that forced them to stop. Both men from inside the Chevy were arrested at the scene. At least one firearm was reportedly seized during the arrests.
