Playa del Carmen police detain man from Peru with 23 stolen bank cards

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A man from Peru was detained after police found him with 23 bank cards in names other than his own. Police in Playa del Carmen arrested the man from the centro area of the city on January 6, after he was found with the cards.

He was taken into custody after a citizen flagged down patrolling police and explained that he saw the man repeatedly attempting to withdraw cash from two ATMs using numerous different cards.

He told police he found it strange that no money was ever disbursed from the machines, adding that even so, the man kept trying. The witness was able to point the man out to police, who was still nearby.

A security inspection of his person revealed the 23 stolen bank cards in various names. Arrested was 42-year-old Carlos N, originally from Peru.
