Playa del Carmen opens new Justice Center for Women

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The city of Playa del Carmen has inaugurated a newly built Justice Center for Women. The facility was inaugurated Thursday with Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa in attendance.

“Today is an important day in the fight to eradicate violence against women. We are settling a historic debt. An urgent task. A fundamental issue to achieve the profound transformation for which we are working in Quintana Roo,” said Mara Lezama.

“The violator does not rest and we do not have the right to rest. This Justice Center was built in six months and today, many women have faith that their lives will change here. We have all been violated and today things can change, ”she added during her speech.

The new facility is located on South Avenue between 115 North and Xpu-há Street and was built in six months at a cost of 17 million peso. The newly constructed Justice Center for Women will provide women with legal, educational, psychological, medical, pedagogical, employment and training services.

It will also help with the solution to their criminal conflicts and seek comprehensive reparation for the damage, while respecting their human rights and avoiding re-victimization.
