Playa del Carmen officer accidently shot during training exercise

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A municipal officer was accidently shot Wednesday during a police training exercise. The incident happened around 1:00 p.m. Wednesday when police officers were outside training in the municipal facility.

The officer has been identified as Rodolfo “A”. He was hit in the shoulder by a fellow officer’s bullet during training.

The shooting was part of a training course in which the weapons were not supplied with bullets, however, another officer who had previously left the drill returned to rejoin the group, forgetting to remove his loaded magazine. It was that officer who made the shot, hitting another officer in the shoulder.

The injured man was transferred to hospital for a non-life-threatening injury.

The Secretary of Public Security (Seguridad Pública y Tránsito Solidaridad) issued a brief statement.

“The Secretariat of Public Security and Municipal Transit of Solidaridad reports that during a course as part of the professionalization of the police, an element was injured by a firearm in the shoulder who is stable and receiving medical attention. Likewise, the corresponding authorities were informed to establish responsibilities.”
