Playa del Carmen hotel shut after inspectors find beach club operating with guests

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Fiscal elements paid a visit to Club de Playa Corazol of the Grand Coral Hotel Sunday afternoon where they proceeded to shut the establishment after they found dozens of people.

Agents arrived at the beach club to find nearly 40 people eating and drinking alcoholic beverages as well as suntanning along the beach area of the hotel. Those found on site, including both workers and visitors, were without mouth masks or healthy distancing practices.

The hotel was found in numerous violations including operating during a time when non-essential businesses are supposed to be shut. During the inspection, the manager opposed the closure and prevented prosecutors from passing until he understood that they had violated all federal, state and municipal health decrees.

The Municipal Inspection Directorate sent all guests and workers home for quarantine.
