Playa del Carmen garbage collectors find woman’s body inside bag

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Local authorities have begun an investigation into the murder of a Playa del Carmen woman. The investigation was opened after her dismembered body was found Monday inside a garbage bin.

The grisly discovery was made around 9:00 a.m. by city workers in the Gonzalo Guerrero neighborhood. The body, reportedly dismembered, was inside a black bag left in a garbage bin.

Garbage collectors found the body during the morning round on 40th Avenue and 38th Street. When the bag was lifted from the bin to be tossed into the back of the truck, it broke.

In a statement Monday afternoon, the FGE (Fiscalía General del Estado) said they had started an investigation into the woman’s death.

State police were at the scene Monday morning.

“The FGE of Quintana Roo reports that through the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Femicide Crimes, it has opened an investigation following the report of a femicide that occurred in the municipality of Solidaridad.

“This Social Representation is working with authorities from all levels of government to find the person responsible for this event. It also reaffirms its commitment to investigate, pursue and bring to justice those who break the law.”
