Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Firemen were called to the scene of a highway accident to assist in removing a trapped driver from his vehicle. Emergency responders were on scene of the 5:20 a.m. accident that was called in along the federal highway by passing motorists.
Medical personnel were called first, however, when they arrived, they found the male driver trapped in the crushed metal. A rescue using the jaws of life was made to free the driver, who was transferred to hospital.
Witnesses to the early morning accident reported the driver of the vehicle was speeding when he collided with the back of an LP gas truck. After the driver was transferred to hospital, a tow truck arrived, taking both involved vehicles to the coral.
