Playa del Carmen driver killed when his car is impaled by highway guardrail

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The driver of a car was killed Saturday night after his vehicle was impaled by a highway guardrail. The accident was reported several kilometers south of Playa del Carmen.

Emergency services located the Vento, which was completely impaled by the metal guardrail. Behind the car on the highway was the deceased driver. He was found missing his left leg.

Personnel attending the scene located the missing leg in a nearby green area. The medical examiner was eventually able to remove the body from the scene, since authorities spent several hours at the accident site.

According to preliminary information, excessive speed is believed to have played a role in the accident. The name and age of the deceased has not been made public.
