Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The municipality of Solidaridad has earmarked more than 8 million pesos to ensure roofs and floors for homes. Mayor Lili Campos announced that this year, the 2023 program to improve housing with a firm floor and safe roof will continue.
“I want to give you the news that we will continue with this program for 2023, so that more families in this area continue to benefit because we have to continue working on improving the quality of life,” she said.
Juan Novelo Zapata, Secretary of Solidaridad Social Justice and Citizen Participation reported that last year, approximately 555 people in the communities of Nuevo Noc Beh, Faisanes, Jacinto Canek, Cristo Rey, Valle de la Primavera, Ek Balam, Tres Hermanos, Brisa del Campo, la Enramada, Los Pájaros, Girasoles and El Bosque benefited from the program.
He said that during 2022, 112 homes were part of the project that saw 16 new floors and 96 new roofs. This year, they are hoping to expand to include a few more homes due to “the good administration of Mayor Lili Campos,” noting they are investing every peso possible into the program.
The Firm floor, Safe Roof program is widespread throughout many parts of Mexico. The goal is to help those who have less to have decent housing since there are many who live with dirt floors and metal roofs that cannot withstand tropical weather conditions like storms.
