Playa del Carmen combi drivers protest fine for overcrowding

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A group of combi drivers from the Lázaro Cárdenas del Río union protested in front of the new Municipal Palace Monday, after a colleague was ticketed for overcrowding.

The group of public combi drivers began gathering as they heard the news that a fellow driver was reported for carrying an excessive amount of passengers. The report was made to city officials by a citizen at a Plaza Las Americas stop.

That report lead to the inspection of the van by a City Council Transportation Directorate inspector. The van was found not only in violation of the allowed amount of passengers for the epidemiological light, it was also found carrying passengers in excess of the unit’s maximum allowed capacity.
