Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — An apartment building in central Playa del Carmen was evacuated after the collapse of a drywall structure. The evacuation, which was headed by the Solidaridad Fire Department, took place Sunday morning along 3rd Street.
According to a briefing from the Secretaría de Protección Civil, Prevención de Riesgos y Bomberos de Solidaridad, 14 people were evacuated from the building after a structure on the roof collapsed.
Part of the collapsed material landed near the public stairs that leads in and out of the building, blocking the building’s underground parkade.
“The Fire Department responded to a report of the collapse of a drywall structure on the roof of an apartment building, 14 people were evacuated and instructions were given to the owner, there were no injuries.
The evacuation happened in the Beta building around 9:00 a.m. and was not a gas leak or explosion as reported by some local media.
