Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Police and paramedics responded to the report of an accident Thursday involving a bicyclist. Emergency personnel were at the scene of the early evening accident along Chemuyil Avenue of Playa del Carmen where they located a deceased man.
Eye witnesses testified that the man was riding his bike along the avenue when he was struck by a blue car. The driver of a blue Kia hit the back of the bicycle, throwing its rider onto the pavement.
The accident happened within sight of a Red Cross facility. Paramedics from inside ran out to help. They were able to get the man’s name before he died. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police were called. The driver of the car was detained. The deceased man is reported to have been a local construction worker.
