Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Solidaridad firemen were called to the scene of a mechanical workshop fire Friday night. Large flames were seen shooting upward as the auto paint shop burned.
The fire was reported in the Nicte-Ha neighborhood of Playa del Carmen around 8:00 p.m. Area residents reported hearing explosions from inside the workshop as the fire spread. Several vehicles were reported to be on the property at the time of the fire.
Playa del Carmen firemen were supported by personnel from Civil Protection during the early evening blaze. A cause for the fire remains under investigation. Solidaridad authorities have not said if the mechanic shop was operating legally.
