Plane, guns, cocaine seized in Campeche

Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche — The Secretary of National Defense (Sedena) has confirmed the seizure of nearly half a ton of cocaine from a plane that landed in the state of Campeche.

In a statement, Gustavo Nieto Navarro of Sedena reported securing an aircraft with almost half a ton of cocaine from South America along with four AK-47 guns. He explained that elements of the Mexican Army and Air Force, members of the Comprehensive Air Surveillance System of Sedena, detected the illegal aircraft entering Mexican territory.

The plane was intercepted with airborne reaction forces while men were deployed to cover probable landing areas. The plane was located in the municipality of Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche, where it was secured and searched.

On board, military personnel found the falsely registered plane transporting 350 packages of cocaine weighing approximately 380 kilos and four AK-47 firearms. Those on board fled before authorities arrived.
