Pilot heading for Cancun makes emergency landing on Campeche beach

Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche — A small plane heading for Cancun carrying seven people was forced to land on a beach Thursday. Authorities met the downed aircraft after it landed on a Campeche beach.

The pilot landed on Playa Norte shortly after leaving the Ciudad del Carmen airport Thursday June 25, 2026.

Municipal police met the plane after it made an emergency landing Thursday on Playa Norte, in Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche.

The plane experienced a mechanical issue as it flew to Cancun. The twin-engine Cessna from Culiacán, Sinaloa had made stops in Mexico City and later at the Ciudad del Carmen airport along the route to Cancun.

Shortly after leaving the Ciudad del Carmen airport, an oil leak was detected. The pilot made the decision for an emergency landing to avoid an accident.

The plane was carrying two crew and five passengers at the time of the landing. There were no injuries reported in the Thursday afternoon incident.
