Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Paramedics rushed a Playa del Carmen swimmer to hospital Thursday after being unable to swim back to shore. The rescue happened at the beach in Parque Fundadores in central Playa del Carmen.
According to scene information, the young man had swam out past the boundary and was unable to swim back. He did manage to swim back toward the swimming boundary where he was found clinging to a buoy.
People on passing jet skis noticed him and returned him to the beach where they notified on duty marine officials. Marina personnel provided first aid while waiting for an ambulance.
The young man was reportedly suffering from extreme exhaustion and hypothermia. He was transferred to a Playa del Carmen hospital and treated.
