PDC police offer public apologies to local activists

Playa del Carmen, Q. R. — Solidaridad police have offered public apologies to two local activists for two separate incidences that happened earlier this year. The public apologies came after recommendations by the Quintana Roo Human Rights Commission.

On Tuesday, the Secretary of Public Security and Municipal Transit, Raúl Tassinari, condemned the action’s of the officers who violated the human rights of citizens. He says his commitment is to continue building a dignified, honest, humane and close corporation, permanently training and supervising the actions of police.

Tthe Ministry of Public Security and Municipal Transit of Solidaridad complied with the recommendations issued by the Quintana Roo Human Rights Commission and issued a public apology to the victims and their families for the actions of the corporation’s elements on February 27 and March 23 of this year.

The apologies were for “bad practices”. Details leading up to the apology were not provided, however, the head of the corporation addressed the victims Antonio Ramos Pérez and Miguel Ángel Valdez Rodríguez who were offered a heartfelt apology for the bad actions of the elements and the impairment of their human rights during the interventions carried out by police assigned to the Secretariat of Public Security and Municipal Transit.

“Our job is clear, to serve and protect residents and the tourists who visit us. I have already let the elements involved know that there will not be a second time. I exhorted and demand that all the police officers of the corporation address each citizen legally and with respect because there is no room in this corporation for bad practices,” he stated.
