PDC parking meter rate increase approved for New Year

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — As of January 1, 2025, the cost of parking in downtown Playa del Carmen will increase. Playaparq was given the 20 percent go-head to increase its meter rates as of the New Year.

The approval was okayed Wednesday during a city hall meeting. In the New Year, drivers parking in the centrally metered zones of Playa del Carmen will have to pay 12 pesos per hour rather than the current 10.

According to Diego Gracidas, manager of the Reordenamiento Urbano Parquímetros (Playaparq), the increase is part of the agreement signed with the municipal government.

“The agreement with the Solidaridad municipality stipulates annual adjustments to the tariff,” although it was agreed that they would apply the first adjustment after five years of operation.

After a Wednesday meeting with new municipal authorities, Diego Gracidas Martínez announced the approved increase of two pesos per hour.

The representative of Playaparq said the increase is established in the concession title signed between them and the Solidaridad City Council in 2018.

Since the meters began operating in December 2019, Playaparq has delivered around 68 million pesos to the municipality for its cut. The parking meter agreement is operational for 15 years.
