PDC officers caught stealing cash during citizen stop relieved of duty

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Municipal authorities are investigating a video showing two Playa del Carmen officers stealing cash from inside a vehicle. The 29 second video began circulating Monday.

The incident reportadly happened during a citizen stop. While reviewing the private vehicle, one of the two officers was secretly videoed taking money he found from inside the vehicle.

One officer is seen at the driver’s door with the cash while the second officer is videoed standing in the open passenger’s door watching. According to a statement released Tuesday by the SSC of Playa del Carmen, both officers have been identified and relieved of the duties.

The short, audio-less video shows the officer in the driver’s door counting bills while his colleague watches. The stop happened in Nuevo Noh Bec, a small community located north northwest of the city of Playa del Carmen.

PDC authorities say they are investigating the video, which has been handed over to Internal Affairs.
