Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A Playa del Carmen police officer was taken to hospital after being hit with a machete. The attack happened Monday evening while he was attempting to disarm a man in the Nueva Creación neighborhood.
The attack happened during a 5:00 p.m. response to a report of an armed intoxicated man on a public street. Responding officers located Mauricio “N” armed and allegedly drunk, juggling his machete, walking the neighborhood.
While attempting to disarm him, the man attacked the officer, hitting him in the neck with his machete. The officer was rushed to a Playa del Carmen hospital in a police unit. His condition is unknown.
Other officers responding to the report of the attack arrived and proceeded to arrest 52-year-old Mauricio “N” from Mexico City. He was found in possession of the offending machete. According to a statement from the SSC, Mauricio “N” is facing charges of attempted murder.
