Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Playa del Carmen mayor-elect Estefanía Mercado, has signed the Agenda for Urban Planning of Solidaridad. The 2024-2027 agreement was signed Thursday with the Colleges of Architects and Engineers to establish a strategic collaboration for the construction of the Municipal Development Plan.
“This is the beginning of something very important and necessary for the future of Solidaridad. You have been very clear about it. The great social impact has to be planned, to envision what we are looking for for the next 30 years and not wait for a government of occurrences to arrive,” Mercado said after the signing.
“We have a lot of work to do because the backlog is historic,” she said.
The agreement will allow the collaboration of the two organizations for the generation of technical studies with the objective of contributing to the integration of the Municipal Development Plan.
It will also strengthen the planning and managing of urban growth by promoting a development that balances economic expansion with the preservation of the social, cultural and environmental environment with a focus on long-term sustainability, she said.
“When a city is not well planned, insecurity comes as well as problems with water, electricity and many indirect consequences. All of this depends on what we are going to start building today.
“What we do not do today will have repercussions on the future,” Mercado said Thursday.
“The Playa del Carmen that we want in the next 30 years will be created by you, the professionals, the technicians, those who live here, those who are hurt by what happens here, those who love Playa del Carmen. Let’s get to work,” she said.
