PDC inspectors set out to verify nightlife noise levels

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Solidaridad City Council personnel have begun bar inspections to verify permitted decibel levels. The inspections began in response to citizen noise complaints in the tourist area.

Fernando Muñoz Calero, the President of the Commission for Ecology, Environment and Animal Protection of the Solidaridad City Council, says the city has received numerous complaints about late night noise.

In response, inspections are being carried out to verify establishments stay within the municipality’s noise limit. Muñoz reported that in addition to reviews, some businesses are being asked to implement soundproofing in their facilities.

“It is not about closing or shutting down businesses, but rather about ensuring proper coexistence between different establishments. Any place that tries to deceive the authorities will be sanctioned,” said Muñoz.

He says the goal is to find a balance between the nightlife and the residents.
