Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A Playa del Carmen motorcycle driver was killed Thursday in a highway crash with a dump truck. The motorcyclist was attempting a highway U-turn when he was hit by the industrial vehicle.
Emergency personnel from Playa del Carmen responded to motorist calls regarding the Thursday morning accident. Red Cross paramedics were at the scene who confirmed the young male driver was killed.
The fatal crash happened on the federal 307 in the industrial zone of Playa del Carmen. the motorcyclist was heading south on the highway when he attempted to use a highway retorno.
As he changed direction and crossed the highway lanes, he collided with a dump truck traveling in the far lane. The driver of the dump truck, attempting to brake but ended up hitting and dragging the motorcyclist for several meters.
Emergency responders found the young man pinned next to his motorcycle under the dump truck’s bumper. He has not been named.
