Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A brush fire reported north of Playa del Carmen Friday was managed by municipal firemen. Playa del Carmen firemen responded to motorists reports of a small burning wildfire along a section of highway near Punta Maroma.

The small fire generated a fair bit of thick white smoke, making it a concern for motorists. The fire was reported to emergency services Friday afternoon along the federal 307 highway.

Firemen arrived in one truck where they located a section of approximately 10 meters of brush that had already burned. Civil Protection and Firefighters of Playa del Carmen have since issued a statement asking people to not throw cigarette butts into the extremely dry trees.
