Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Solidaridad firemen were quick to extinguish a hotel palapa fire in central Playa del Carmen late Thursday. City firemen were called to the Fifth Avenue hotel after a section of their palapa began to burn.
The 38th Street hotel fire had elements at the establishment around 11:00 p.m. Thursday where they doused the smoldering grass located on the second level of the building. The hotel was evacuated of staff and guests while Playa del Carmen firemen attended to the scene.
There were no injuries reported in the small fire, only material water and burn damage to the structure.
In a brief note Friday, the SPC (Secretaría de Protección Civil, Prevención de Riesgos y Bomberos of Solidaridad) said “we responded to a report of a fire in the palapa of a hotel located on Fifth Avenue. Operational elements evacuated the people who were inside and firefighters extinguished the fire. Only material damage was reported.”
The official cause of the fire has not been reported.
