PDC Fifth Avenue shop owner dies after weekend attack

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A man in a targeted shooting Friday in central Playa del Carmen has died. The unnamed victim died in a local hospital over the weekend after being shot in the chest Friday.

The man is reported to have been shot twice in the chest Friday afternoon while inside a Fifth Avenue shop that he owned. A woman from inside the craft store was injured in the leg during the attack.

There are reports that the owner of the store had been threatened in the past for refusing to pay extortion fees in the form of floor rights. A lone male is said to have entered the 40th Street store around 2:00 p.m. and shot the man. He died Saturday.

Police have not reported on any arrests related to the shooting.
