PDC combi drivers protest towing of vehicle without documents

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Dozens of Playa del Carmen combi drivers blocked a section of the federal highway Wednesday near the Imoveqroo office. The highway was blocked after the group became aware of one of their own having his unit towed.

On Wednesday, a PDC combi was towed from circulating on public roads by the Mobility Institute (Imoveqroo) for not having the necessary documents required. The offending combi was stopped on Universidad Avenue.

In protest, a large group of combi drivers completely shut a section of the federal highway around 2:30 p.m. in north Playa del Carmen. In order for them to open the highway, they demanded the unit be released.

Ricardo Urrutia, the Director of the Mobility Institute of Solidaridad, eventually met with the group of Lázaro Cárdenas del Río Union drivers. The highway was reopened an hour later. The arrangements made to have the roadblock removed are unknown.
