The group made the tour  with personnel from the College of Architects and Engineers of the Riviera Maya, Zofemat and the Ministry of Health. Authorities conducted a tour of the inclusive beach area of Punta Esmeralda to make improvements.

The Director General of the Institute, Jesús Rodríguez, stated that the visit was organized to plan infrastructure projects that prioritize accessibility for people with disabilities by addressing their specific needs.

During the tour, various architectural and urban barriers that require removal were identified to ensure free movement and mobility.

“Our commitment is to offer equal opportunities so that everyone can enjoy services under the same conditions as anyone else,” Jesús Rodríguez said.

He also reported that Playa del Carmen Mayor Estefanía Mercado signed a collaboration agreement with the College of Architects and Engineers of the Riviera Maya to improve the infrastructure at the inclusive beach.

He said the agreement means meeting the universal accessibility standards required by people with disabilities.

“Our Mayor Estefanía Mercado has a vision for this inclusive beach to provide 100 percent recreation and services to people with disabilities.

“We are also evaluating the access and infrastructure conditions of the beach located on 88th Street. If feasible, it will become the second inclusive beach in this municipality,” she said.
