Costa Maya, Q.R. — A beer truck that overturned along a section of Tulum-Felipe Carrillo Puerto highway was looted before police arrived. The double-long semi was carrying a load of metal beer kegs early Friday morning when the accident happened.
Several passing motorists who recognized the contents of the spilled load stopped to help themselves to what they took to be free kegs. Both trailers of the semi were completely emptied by thieves before elements of the National Guard arrived.
According to the driver of the semi, he was traveling toward Cancun around 2:00 a.m. when he lost control and toppled his unit. Several tow trucks were called in to upright the semi and its two empty trailers.
